I don’t know the exact details of the KR algorithm but if it works like other computational algorithms it will do sub image alignment even with irregular motion. Kandao Raw+ wasn’t specifcally for designed for star stacking but it is a natural use case. This approach combines multiple images taken in rapid succession to reduce noise and increase detail. Kandao Raw+ (KR) uses computational photography algorithms similar to what Apple and Google developed for smartphones to increase image quality. But I was pleasantly surprised and the short summary is that Kandao Raw+ works extremely well and even handles problematic cases which cause difficulty for programs like Starry Landscape Stacker and Sequator. Up to this point I had been using Starry Landscape Stacker which has worked very well so I was a bit skeptical as to whether Kandao Raw+ could actually bring anything new to the table. If a 24mm lens is used, the optimum exposure time drops to 12 seconds and consequently an f2.8 lens will require an ISO of 6400 and a f4 or f5.6 aperture would be even.I recently tried out a new software program for star stacking called Kandao Raw+. If the only lens available is a f5.6, the ISO will need to be 12,800. In order to capture pinpoint stars, the average exposure for a night time photograph is 15-20 seconds at f2.8 with a focal length of 14-20mm and an ISO of 3200. It is very important when photographing the Milky Way and the night sky to use an exposure time that does not show movement or blurring of the stars. Using Starry Landscape Stacker reduces noise and increases image quality even when used with an ISO of 6400 and higher. However, not everyone owns the latest equipment and still wants to photograph the night sky and create astro photography landscapes. The latest digital cameras offer better low light performance and faster lenses have become more affordable.
